South of Scotland Destination Alliance (SSDA) and Dumfries & Galloway Council join forces to host the ‘must-attend’ digital session for businesses in the region who now require a short-term let licence to operate
The SSDA has teamed up with Dumfries and Galloway Council to host a free online information session for anyone running holiday lets or B&B accommodation in the region, to help them find out how to apply for new short-term lets licences which will be required by law in Scotland from 1 April 2023.
Webinar contents
The ‘How to apply for your Short-Term Let Licence’ webinar will be held from 11am to 12 noon on Wednesday 12 October 2022, with a similar event for the Scottish Borders due to follow in the coming weeks.
The free session will cover everything short-term let operators will need to know about how to make a licence application, including:
– what documentation they will need to provide
– details of the mandatory conditions & making sure they are compliant
– access to the guidance for hosts and operators
– the cost of a licence
– how to apply to D&G Council for a licence
Melanie Allen, Interim Chief Executive of the SSDA, said: “The short-term let sector plays a hugely important role in bringing visitors to the South of Scotland, with thousands of stunning and unique places to stay right across the region. It’s vital that all businesses operating in this sphere are fully informed about the new legislation that has come in across Scotland from 1 October, so that they can adapt and thrive.
“That’s why we are delighted to team up with Dumfries & Galloway Council to host a webinar detailing a step-by-step guide to the application process. We hope that this informative session will help operators easily understand short-term let licensing and everything involved in making an application.
“We would like to thank the Housing and Licensing Standards Team at Dumfries and Galloway Council for their pragmatic approach to the Licensing scheme. We appreciate the tight timescales that they have had to work to, and the considerations taken to ensure a light touch approach to licensing, which will hopefully go a long way to supporting businesses through this process at this challenging time.”
This session is free and is open to all short-term let operators based in the Dumfries and Galloway Council area.
Scottish Borders to follow
A similar event with Scottish Borders Council will follow soon. The Scottish Borders draft licensing policy is out for public consultation until 30 October – views are welcomed. Policy approval is expected by the end of 2022 and all short-term let businesses, including supply chains, are urged to take part and share their views in the consultation.
Application forms for licences in the Scottish Borders are being finalised.
